THE PROJECT
This hour-long student documentary aims to bring attention to the complex and important legacy of political dissidence at UChicago and its relationship to Eastern Europe.
Our primary focuses are, historically, Professor Ioan Culianu, and today, Professor Konstantin Sonin. We hope our screening in Logan Center’s Screening Room (Room 201) will spark a public conversation about UChicago’s notable history.
We are drawing together undergraduate creatives to interview profs and alums of the Divinity School and Harris and conduct SCRC archival research. Interviews have been filmed primarily on campus in various academic buildings, while fictionalized scenes will be filmed at the WHPK studio.

Anthropology & Creative Writing
I'm a writer and researcher interested in audio journalism, the limits of empathy, and the natural world. I've majored in Anthropology and Creative Writing at UChicago, where I received the "New Voices in Fiction" award in 2024. I come from Philadelphia, Prince Edward Island, and the underground shopping mall-train station hybrid that keeps showing up in my dreams.

Addison Wood
Latin American & Caribbean Studies, Cinema and Media Studies, & English
I am a filmmaker and an occasional academic at UChicago studying film, English, and Latin American history. Born and raised in College Park, Georgia, my earliest memories are of attending football games with my aunt and listening to the music of So So Def. I fell in love with movies through music videos and later developed an interest in installation art. Today, my works center on themes of modernization, masculinity, political violence, and kitsch culture.
