An Exciting New Future for Café Logan in partnership with Little Black Pearl

The Logan Center for the Arts, UChicago Dining and Chartwells, are excited to announce a new partnership with Little Black Pearl and Carver 47.

This summer, Café Logan will undergo a transformation – welcoming the incredible culinary talents of Chef Lizz Wright and the design expertise of Monica Haslip – to create a new dining, creative, and community gathering experience based on their successful Carver 47 café at Little Black Pearl.

Like the Logan Center, Little Black Pearl is a vibrant creative community where art, culture, and human potential come together to inspire connection and possibility. At Carver 47, Chef Lizz celebrates food that is healthy and nourishing to the body, mind, and soul. The menu blends fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and cultural storytelling to create an experience that feels both comforting and deeply rooted in the arts and community.

From the very beginning, the Logan Center has partnered with Little Black Pearl, working with LBP teaching artists and area youth to create murals that were installed on our construction fences and hosting graduations for the LBP High School. “We are excited to launch this new phase of our longstanding partnership,” said Bill Michel, Executive Director of the Logan Center, “As an incredible culinary and jazz artist, Chef Lizz is the perfect person to ensure that Café Logan is a place that brings together our students, faculty, and neighbors around great food, art, and community.”

For the last 14 years, the staff at Cafe Logan have created a welcoming environment for our students, staff, faculty and neighbors. Bill added, “We are thankful for all that the Cafe Logan staff have done to create that community since we opened in 2012 and we look forward to continuing that tradition with this new partnership.”

Under Monica Haslip’s leadership, Carver 47 helps people to reclaim powerful stories and to celebrate the knowledge already present within our communities. “We are honored to build on our longstanding relationship with the Logan Center to create a space where food, art, music, and community come together to inspire connection, creativity, and belonging” said Monica Haslip, Founder and Executive Director of Little Black Pearl. “Many UChicago students, faculty, and staff who frequent Carver 47 have encouraged us to look for ways to reach more members of the UChicago community, and we are excited that this new partnership with the Logan Center and UChicago Dining makes that possible.”

“We are excited to expand our partnership with Little Black Pearl, Lizz Wright, and Monica Haslip and the entire team at Carver 47,” said Emily Hooper Lansana, Senior Director of Programming and Engagement at the Logan Center, “We are thrilled to feature the creative expertise of Little Black Pearl an innovative South Side institution. We look forward to collaborating to deepen partnership through creative programming including featuring the musical talents of Chef Lizz Wright”.
