Horsemeat: The Musical
THE MUSICAL
The year is 1179 AD. Three sweaty soldiers sit criss-cross applesauce inside a horse heading towards Troy. At the gates of Troy stand two guards who are brothers by chance, but friends by choice. The sun is setting. The horse is flirting? Everybody’s jazzed. Like really jazzed. Will Buttercup make it through the gates? Only time will tell.
Horsemeat is Harper Learmonth’s and Jake Schroeder’s third and final musical from the 2023-2024 season. After Open Wide and Serve, stories of love and murder, the duo wanted to focus on a theme closer to their hearts: friendship.

Harper Learmonth
4th year, Astrophysics & Philosophy
Harper is a fourth year in the College studying Astrophysics and Philosophy. She performs improv and sketch comedy with Off-Off Campus and at Second City, and has co-written three musicals with Jake. She loves to host a tea party on a Sunday afternoon.

Jake Schroeder
4th year, English; Computer Science Minor
Jake is a fourth year in the College studying English with a minor in computer science. HORSEMEAT is the third musical Jake has written with Harper. He joined Off-Off Campus during his first year at UChicago, thinking that improvisational comedy would make him cooler. It didn’t make him cooler, but it did make him a better person.
